They are fountains which have solar panels that convert the sunlight into electricity. The solar panels are made up of Photovoltaic (PV) cells, which collect the energy for conversion to electricity. These PV cells are composed of silicon, the main component of sand. The converted sunlight into electricity is used to power the water pumps of the fountain. The water will slow down temporarily if something blocks the panels. How to Use Solar Fountains Solar fountains are exceedingly user-friendly and not complicated to set up. Our website does not feature installation procedures because it is not necessary. There are some fountains which have their solar panels directly built on the body of the fountain and have remote panels that give you the freedom to place them up to 15 feet away from the fountain for the best sunlight exposure. There are numerous ways to set up solar panels. There are mounting systems that allow them to stand on hard surface or grass stakes that positions them in the lawn or garden. You can also hang them on a wall or wooden stake. The most important thing to remember is to place them away from objects that can block the sun. Solar Fountains in the Winter, Nighttime, and Cloudy Days Solar fountains can be used in the winter as long as it is not below freezing point. But if the solar panel is attached to the fountain during winter and the sun is shining, there is a chance that the pump will get damaged. It is recommended to disconnect your solar fountain during winter. But if it is sunny outside and the temperature is not freezing, your fountain will be fine. Most solar fountains have very thin PV cells, hence they can’t store large amounts of energy to be used when the sun is setting or the weather is cloudy. It could work during overcast or slightly cloudy days but it will not have enough power causing it to have a slower water fall. There are solar fountains that include battery backups but most are designed for the sunny weather. Benefits of Solar Fountains Solar fountains are perfect for outdoors as long there is ample exposure to sunlight. You don’t have to consider a power supply when buying a solar fountain. Homeowners with large yards are the ones who are benefited by this. Solar pond fountains are very convenient because it doesn’t need installation. Just place them anywhere that has sunlight and it is ready to go. This kind of fountain shoots water in the air, and owner will enjoy it near the pool or your garden pond. You can use rocks or rope to anchor it down in a spot. Solar fountains are also very nature-friendly and virtually don’t need maintenance. The solar panels are toxic free and have no moving parts. The electricity used is generated with no discharge, fuel, and noise. It is safe for children and pets.
